The USS Berkeley insigne was designed by her officers and men as a tribute to her namesake. The center crest, color and motto are derived from the Berkeley family.
The stars above the crest are symbolic of the rank of Major General Randolph C. Berkeley, USMC, after whom the ship was named. The background and lettering are Navy blue. Stars, pennants, outlines, chevron and crosses are silver and the center crest background is dark red.
