The series of photos on this page we taken after H.S. THEMISTOKLES was decommissioned and awaiting disposition. These are
not pleasant photos for the ship was to some extent cannibalized and the departing crew pretty much trashed the spaces.
NOT A FITTING END TO A GREAT SHIP. The photos were provided as a courtesy and taken by Rick Bennett when he went to
Greece to observe the decommissioning of his former ship, HS NEARCHOS (ex-USS WADDELL).
The Hellenic Navy decommissioned H.S. THEMISTOKLES (Ex-USS BERKELEY) on 18 Feb 2002 and the ship was sold for scrap on 19 Feb 2004.
Photos are ex-USS Berkeley and ex-USS JOSEPH STRAUSS nested together awaiting disposition in Salamis, Greece.
